Just down the way from our shop on Stanyan Street is the Kezar Pavilion, home of the world famous Bay Bombers roller derby team. Now, we’d simply be bad neighbors if we all didn’t go check out the action on little tiny wheels.
Best I can tell, roller derby is like WWF wrestling on a velodrome whilst wearing roller skates. There were hip-checks, high-sticking with elbows, full on brawling and hurling of pop corn. It was impossible to ignore the action…

We were instant fans. Unfortunately our beloved Bay Bombers lost to the Los Angeles Firebirds, but that won’t dampen our enthusiasm.

We know the Bombers fought the hardest. The best part of the night was just being part of a San Francisco tradition, something we know about. American Cyclery, your #1source for history, cycling or otherwise.

You may remember our Internatural Man of Mystery from our post on the NAHBS, but if not, Alan the Man-on-the-Inside is back on the scene with his spy shots from the Taipei Bike Show in Taiwan. It may seem hard to fathom the notion of zipping from the NAHBS in Indianapollis to Taipei, but Super Spy Alan has his means.

This is were I believe he touched down via rocket-pack, once again photographed from his belt buckle camera.

A garbled satelite SMS from Alan suggests this is the border of the Forbidden Zone to be crossed in the morning.

With the Forbidden Zone crossing to come in the AM, or consumate secret agent uses the wee hours to investigate this subtley hidden archeological dig, known among inner circles as “the Dinosaur Bar”, to search for clues.

This dimly lit subterainean world is wrought with peril, with certain inebriation lurking around every corner…

In the AM the Forbidden Zone is sucessfully penetrated, reveiling this reveiling shot of a small truck that appears to be sinking…

Also exposed: munitions of large valves, both in Presta and Dunlop varieties.

This tire confirms the discoveries made at the prior night’s archeological dig. After this transmission our connection became garbled, but I heared the squealing tires of a souped up sports car in the background spraying what can only be assumed to be a foe foiling oil slick. I don’t envy the life of a spy, it is the epitome of danger and frequently leaves more questions than answers…

Stay tuned.

We did this fender install for a customer’s beloved Miyata, which was powder coated along with these lovely beveled Honjos.

With wide tires and tight clearances this project required a bit of custom fabrication, such as…

A riv-nut to mount the forward rear fender so as not to interfere with the Pletcher double kickstand. (Not pictured)

Seat-stay bridge mount modified to fit tighter.

But the rear seemed easy compared to the front…

A dimple to buy some space under the fork crown.

Just enough.

Now, that is one handsome looking bicycle!

I can’t say I’m really missing the Indianapollis winter, but know I am missing some of the prettiest bikes in the land. Fortunately dear viewers, we have a man on the inside. Here’s some spy pics our buddy Alan sent us from the NAHBBS. I heard he has a camera hidden in his belt buckle, and a car that shoots rockets.

Alan has a thing for Japanese track bikes. He can even find them at the North American Hand Build Bike Show.

Very nice BB shell casting. Alan knows his lugs, and can spot a good one from all the way in Indiana.

Well then, how about some new Tange handle bars? They’re shiney!!!

Some shots of Joseph Ahearne’s spangly beauty. Liberace would be proud.

This handsome city bike looks ready to travel, with it’s combo of S&S coupling and Ritchey Break-Away seat-tube collar. I like Joseph’s designs, he is not afraid to do things his way. With sparkles.

I do love them fenders. Thanks for the pics Alan, have fun in Indiana. Wear a jacket.
